Where is this world going? What even is this timeline?
My Dad fought in world war 2. He watched the rise of the Nazi's, he joined up under age. RAF. He did not enjoy his time during the war. He barely spoke about it. The most I ever heard him speak was when my boyfriend was excited he might be deployed during Desert Storm. Dad blew up at him. I've never seen him so angry. He described why war is not something to be taken lightly it, not something to be excited about. Killing people, even when the cause is right is never a good thing.
I'll be damned if I will watch fascism rise again in silence.
The current US government is not just right wing. They are thugs. Leading an army of thugs. With petty people lapping up every bit of it because they enjoy watching the people they have othered hurt. I'm not using that word lightly. They ENJOY it. You can see it in the angry posts about why they see it as OK. You can see it in the faces of ICE agents as they thug their way through protesters who are just upholding their fundamental right to protest.
I was in the US for the Million Women March. By accident really. We were travelling, my daughter and I, because I was very ill, didn't know that I would live ill. And we happened to be in Seattle for the march. There were so many people on the streets. And I felt safe.
My friend, David Farrier, is in the USA reporting as he can. He was on scene in Minneapolis shortly after Alex Pretti was murdered. And I am terrified for him.

This was murder. Alex's gun was holstered. They removed it from his holster. He was on the ground. There were plenty of thugs there to subdue him. But they shot him multiple times. Watch the videos, there are multiple angles. There is never a weapon in Alex's hand. But only watch them if you can, I'm not asking anyone to view a cold blooded murder. It should be seen, but not at the expense of your sanity in this already insane world.
This world is out of control. My own country, which I have always loved and never imagined would show so much hate has a government full of petty little bigots. I see many places leaning the same way.
It has to stop.
I'm left wing, but I am not anti-right-wing. It's good to see things through balance. I am vehemently anti extremism, in any form. When we lean to far in any direction things get messed up. We all fall.
I believe we have reached a pivotal moment in history. If we go forward as is, this will become, in Star Trek terms, the mirror universe. It is time the world stood up, as it has before, to stop the madness. We all need to speak up whenever we see things gone this far astray. Before it is too late.
I am my father's daughter. I don't have to like it but I do have to do it.
